Friday 8th May marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day. We will still be commemorating this at Ashford Wide, just in a slightly different way to our original plans.
With the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and lockdown scuppering all events, proposed streeet parties, and celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, we have decided to go virtual. It would be great to build our own ‘virtual’ scrolling wall of poppies for our community to commemorate and remember those near and dear. Messages of remembrance, celebration, memories, and support are all welcome. We would love to hear them all, and involve our businesses and community as a whole.
So for this year our usual sponsored poppies that would appear around the High Street will now appear here on the website! You can still have your name, business name, or of a loved one in pride of place as part of our virtual poppy gallery. Alternatively, you can have a message or memory included. Help us turn the website poppy red, white, and blue to mark this 75th anniverary. To mark the day physically, the W.I. are kindly arranging flowers to be placed at the War Memorial ready for next Friday.
Each virtual poppy is £10 with all funds going towards our annual Remembrance Day Parade.
You can purchase your via our website here. Please insert the amount of £10, your details, and then any message for your poppy in the comments box. This then takes you through to paypal to complete the payment.
Alternatively, please email us at business@ashfordwide.com and we will help get everything arranged.
It has been fantastic to see the community come together during the current lockdown. And it would be fantastic for us all to still be able to celebrate VE Day 75. So thank you in advance for all of your continued support, stay safe.
