Ashford Remembered…

This year as we all know is 100 years since the end of World War 1, the war that was supposed to end all wars.

Today 100 years on Ashford Remembered the sacrifices made by our Armed forces Personnel and members of our own communities that served and gave everything (including their lives in some cases) in order that we could live in the relative peace and freedom we have today.

Ashford Wide ensured that this year Ashford was going to go the extra mile in order to remember those who gave and continue to give so much for our freedom.

We created not 1 but 2 beautiful banners that reflected the theme which were displayed in the town both on the Multi Storey Car Park and on the side of the DVLA Test Centre wall by the War Memorial.

We supported this along side 100 Poppies for 100 years which were displayed on posts and signs along Church Road & Woodthorpe Road (Ashford high street).

On the 11th November Ashford on the Map (Which is no longer Active) continued to pay for and help co-ordinate the annual service of remembrance and Parade through the town to the Memorial, which this year saw the highest turn out in memory.

This was a wonderful day and all involved remembered in their own way whether that was in silent thought or sharing memories of loved ones lost in service with those around them.

Everyone in the Town came together to create a truly amazing day of Remembrance.

It was truly inspiring to see so many groups marching through the town from the youngest through to the oldest members of our community, all united and working together in Remembrance.

Spelthorne council added the addition of a ‘there but not there’ Tommy placed on the roundabout at Town Tree Road, pointing down the High Street towards the Memorial.

Ashford Wide would like to thank all those involved however big or small their contribution including:

Royal British Legion
Ashford on the Map
Data Reproduction
Spelthorne Street Scene
Surrey Police
Staines Brass Band
Girl Guides Association
Scouting Association
Boys Brigade
Ashford Women’s Institute
to name but a few.

Working together for a better Ashford.

Ashford Wide will continue to work for, and with the community on activities for the Town and surrounding areas.
